1953年生まれ。 4歳から12歳までオハイオ州クリーブランドで過ごす。5歳からピアノを習い、音楽学校（The Cleveland Music Settlement）でピアノ理論、音楽史を学ぶ。帰国後、高校在学中にジャズ音楽に接し、国際基督教大学では哲学と作曲学を学ぶ。大学卒業後に再び渡米して多くのミュージシャンと演奏を続け、1989年から1991年まで、日本人唯一のマイルス・ディビスグループのメンバーとして活動した世界的ピアニストである。

Born in 1953, Akagi spent his childhood from age four to 12 in Cleveland, Ohio, where he started taking piano lessons at the age of five and studied piano theory and music history at the Cleveland Music Settlement. Upon his return to Japan, he was exposed to jazz music while in high school and studied philosophy and music composition at the International Christian University. After completing his undergraduate degree, he moved back to the United States, where he continued to play with many musicians. He is a globally celebrated pianist who performed as the only Japanese member of the Miles Davis group from 1989 to 1991.

1988年生まれ。3歳よりクラシックピアノ、作曲などを学び、明治大学入学と同時にコントラバスを始める。2013年にケイ赤城トリオのレギュラーメンバーとして数々の国内外のツアーとアメリカでのレコーディングに参加。現在、ケイ赤城トリオ、ユキアリマサトリオ、渡辺翔太トリオ、竹内直カルテット、原大力カルテット、井上銘グループ、若井俊也トリオなど様々なバンド、セッションで都内を拠点に活動をしている。

Born in 1988, Wakai studied classical piano and composition from the age of three and started playing double bass upon entering Meiji University. In 2013, he joined the Kei Akagi Trio as a regular member for many domestic and international tours and recordings in the United States. He is currently based in Tokyo, working with various bands and performing at sessions, including the Kei Akagi Trio, Yuki Arimasa Trio, Shota Watanabe Trio, Nao Takeuchi Quartet, Dairiki Hara Quartet, May Inoue Group, Shunya Wakai Trio, and more.

1989年生まれ。東京音楽大学打楽器科を経て同大学院修士課程修了。大学院在籍中に日本ジャズ界の巨匠、鈴木勲バンドへの加入で本格的なプロ活動を開始する。その後、山口真文（ts）、西尾健一（tp）をはじめ、様々なバンドやミュージシャンのもとで多くの経験を積む。2019年よりケイ赤城トリオに参加。その他、打楽器アンサンブル集団DA.DA.DOUNを主宰するなど、ジャズシーンを軸に精力的に取り組んでいる。

Born in 1989. Completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees in wind and percussion at the Tokyo College of Music. While in graduate school, Kira began his professional career as a member of the band of Isao Suzuki, a Japanese jazz legend. He later gained significant experience playing with various bands and musicians including Mabumi Yamaguchi (tenor saxophone) and Kenichi Nishio (trumpet), then joined the Kei Akagi Trio in 2019. He is also the organizer of the percussion ensemble group DA.DA.DOUN, actively engaged in the jazz scene.

Rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship while embracing contemporary ways of living, these spaces have also found a natural connection with the sophistication of modern jazz as an art form. Though born from very different histories, traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern jazz both remain open to the world. It is perhaps through this openness that they naturally complement one another.

Beyond aesthetics, they also share a similar purpose. Both seek to bring beauty, comfort, reflection, and a deeper sense of humanity into everyday life. The quiet material beauty of handcrafted objects and the spontaneity of improvisation create a contrast that enriches the atmosphere itself, allowing spaces to feel not only functional, but emotionally alive.

Even the instruments themselves reveal this connection. The wood shaped by a double bass luthier, the precise casting and engineering of a saxophone, the resonance of a piano, or the hand-hammered surface of a cymbal all reflect a dialogue between craftsmanship, material, and expression. They are objects created not only for function, but to carry human presence through time.

Jazz has held a unique and enduring place within Japanese cultural life for decades. From intimate jazz kissas and live houses to dedicated listeners, collectors, and musicians, Japan has cultivated a deep appreciation for the music, not only as entertainment, but as an art form experienced with attention and care. This long relationship with jazz has made it possible for music to exist naturally within the atmosphere of Time & Style.

From the beginning, music has been an essential part of the Time & Style experience. The desire to create opportunities for people to encounter remarkable live performances in intimate settings led naturally to the continuation of concerts within our spaces, and eventually to the creation of the jazz label, TIME & STYLE JAZZ.

Over the years, these performances have become part of the atmosphere and identity of Time & Style itself, connecting musicians, listeners, and spaces through a shared sense of closeness and presence. Among the artists closely connected to this history is the Kei Akagi Trio, whose recordings for TIME & STYLE JAZZ have formed an important part of the label’s journey. Four albums have been released to date: Liquid Blue (2006), Circle Point (2014), Contrast & Form (2016), and Aqua Puzzle (2017).

TIME & STYLE JAZZについて

TIME & STYLEは、家具、建築、アート、音楽が自然に調和する空間づくりを通して、心地よさと美意識に満ちた豊かな日常を提案してきました。

日本の伝統的な職人技を基盤としながら、現代的な感性やライフスタイルを取り入れるその姿勢は、洗練された芸術表現であるモダンジャズとも深く共鳴しています。異なる歴史を持ちながらも、日本のものづくりとモダンジャズは、ともに世界に開かれた文化であり、その開かれた感覚によって自然に響き合っています。

また両者には、美しさだけではない共通点があります。
それは、暮らしの中に静かな豊かさや思索、そして人間らしさをもたらそうとする姿勢です。

手仕事による仕上げの美しさと、即興演奏が生み出す自由な表現。
その調和は空間に奥行きを与え、単なる機能性を超えた、生きた空気を生み出します。

さらに、楽器そのものにも、ものづくりとの深い関係性が宿っています。コントラバスを形づくる木工技術、サックスの精緻な鋳造や構造、ピアノの響き、シンバルの打ち出し加工──そこには、素材、職人、そして表現が響き合う感覚が息づいています。楽器とは単なる道具ではなく、人の存在や時間を内包する工芸的な存在でもあります。

日本でのジャズは長年にわたり、独自の文化として深く親しまれてきました。ジャズ喫茶やライブハウス、熱心なリスナー、コレクター、演奏家たちによって育まれてきたその文化は、音楽を単なる娯楽ではなく、丁寧に向き合う芸術として受け継がれてきました。そうした背景の中で、音楽はTIME & STYLEの空間にも自然に溶け込むようになっていったのです。

創業当初より、音楽はTIME & STYLEの体験に欠かせない存在でした。空間の中で優れたライブ演奏と出会う機会を育み続けてきたことが、やがてジャズレーベル「TIME & STYLE JAZZ」の設立へとつながっていきました。

長年にわたり続けられてきたライブ演奏は、TIME & STYLEの空間やアイデンティティの一部となり、演奏者、聴き手、そして空間を親密につなぐ存在となっています。その歩みを象徴する存在のひとつがKei Akagi Trioです。TIME & STYLE JAZZからは、これまでに『Liquid Blue』（2006）、『Circle Point』（2014）、『Contrast & Form』（2016）、『Aqua Puzzle』（2017）の4作品を発表し、レーベルの歩みとともに深い関係を築き続けています。
